Mark Cuban speaks on Firing Basketball Star “Lamar Obam”

Mark Cuban Speaks Out on Firing Lamar Odom

“Lack of commitment.”

THose three words could kill the career of any athlete, let alone a professional one. Thus was the case in the quick war between (soon-to-be) former Dallas Maverick Lamar Odom and owner Mark Cuban.

In a statement to ESPN after he was placed inactive on Tuesday, Odom said that “The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team.”

During halftime of the Mavs game at Memphis on Saturday, both Cuban and Odom exchanged heated words in the visitor’s locker room. Dallas ended up losing that game 94-89 to the Grizzlies.

“And I just asked him, does he want to go for it or not? Is he in or is he out? I think he thought we were playing poker. I just didn’t get a commitment. And that was the end,” said Cuban in a statement.  “We hope it’s addition by subtraction.”

Odom was habitually late to practice and team meetings, despite his condo being just across the street from the American Airlines Center.  Cuban said he tried to turn the situation into a positive “the first 17 times”, but with Dallas eyeing a playoff spot, the organization lost patience with the 13-year NBA vet.

Odom averaged just 6.6 points per game for the Mavs this season with an average of 21 minutes per game.
